Jama's Beauty & Barber College California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology approved Barbering program of 1500 hours includes the comprehensive study and practice of all aspects of the beautification and care of the hair and skin.  The course provides for both classroom instruction and supervised practice of job related skills on real customers such as hairdressing, hair cutting, coloring, shaving and skin care services.  This program also includes the study of relative subjects such as bacteriology, anatomy, chemistry, health and salon business.

 

Our Barbering Program prepares our students to sit for the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology examinations to become a licensed barber. 

 

At Jama's Beauty & Barber College, you'll learn advanced hair coloring, color correction and advance hair cutting which is not offered at most academies.

Students learn the following subjects in both theory and practical categories:

 

Hair Cutting

 

Students learn the proper techniques and procedures for the use of scissors, razors (shaper), electrical clippers/trimmers, cutting fades and thinning (tapering) shears for wet and dry cutting.

 

 

Hair Coloring and Bleaching

 

Students learn how to use permanent, semi-permanent and temporary colors as well as hair analysis, predisposition and strand tests, safety precautions, formula mixing, tinting, bleaching, high and low lights, and the use of dye removers.

 

 

Shaving Preparation and Performance

 

Students learn the techniques and procedures for preparing the client's hair for shaving, assessing the condition of the client's skin, performing shaving techniques, applying after-shave antiseptic following facial services, massaging the client's face, rolling cream massages.

 

 

Hair-styling

 

Students learn the techniques and procedures for hair analysis, shampooing, finger waving, pin curling, comb out, straightening, waving, curling with hot combs and hot curling irons and blow-dry styling.

 

 

Permanent Waving and Chemical Straightening

 

Students learn the following techniques and procedures: Hair analysis, acid and alkaline permanent waving, chemical straightening including the use of sodium hydroxide and other base solutions.

 

 

Hair Extensions/ Hair Weaves / Men's Hair Replacement

 

Students learn how to use different types of hair extension for fullest and length.

 

 

Disinfection and Sanitation

Students learn the following techniques and procedures: disinfection and sanitation including proper procedures to protect the health and safety of the consumer as well as the technician.

 

Proper disinfection procedures for equipment used in establishments.  Disinfection shall be emphasized throughout the entire training period and must be performed before and after use of all instruments and equipment.

State Board Preparation

Students will learn the procedures that will be done at State Board, ensuring they will be well prepared and confident in passing both written and practical State Board examinations.

 

Additional Training in Business and Professionalism

Students will learn communication skills that includes professional ethics, salesmanship, decorum record-keeping, client service records and basic tax responsibilities related to independent contractors. Instruction is given in regards to booth rentals, information on employees and employers duties and rights as well as strategies to enable client retention.

 

Graduation and Program Completion Date

 

Graduation is based upon the amount of hours you complete per week per your schedule.  Completion dates can range from 10 to 24 months.
